Description
Job Purpose
The jobholder is responsible for providing nursing services within the CTC endoscopy unit, in order that the patient/client receives quality care in line with hospital policies and hospital regulations.
Key Responsibilities/ Duties / Tasks
a) Assess each of the assigned patients’ needs.
b) Organize and coordinate nursing care and medical treatments.
c) Check vital signs of patients and record them accurately.
d) Document assessments and interventions provided.
e) Feed patients via nasal gastric tubes and other enteral tubes.
f) Administer fluids and monitor patients’ input and output.
g) Administer medications to patients.
h) Perform bed baths for bedridden patients and other hygiene tasks such as oral care.
i) Perform daily routines such as cleaning around the station, bed making, and dump dusting.
j) Protect patients from decubitus ulcers through turning and engaging in activities.
k) Perform wound care as needed.
l) Practice infection prevention techniques, including proper handwashing and waste handling.
m) Insert IV access for patients as required.
n) Perform catheterization procedures.
o) Assist with the ambulation of patients.
p) Perform nebulization treatments.
q) Prepare patients for discharge and facilitate their return home.
r) Hand over patient care information during shift changes.
s) Maintain the unit effectively according to hospital policy with minimum supervision
t) Maintain infection prevention guidelines and practice.
u) Ensure safety in the work place by maintaining a clean, safe, and pleasant environment
v) Maintain familiarity with the legal implications of nursing practice and ensure that legal requirements are met
w) Promote effective interpersonal and public relations
x) Provide and ensure appropriate health teaching and counseling to individuals, families and community.
y) Identify research topics, construct a research plan, and carry out surveys at the operational level.
z) Perform any other duty that may be assigned from time to time.

Academic qualifications
o Diploma in Nursing or related field from a recognized institution.
Professional Qualifications (Special training or Professional certification).
o Higher National Diploma in Gastroenterology Nursing or Endoscopy Nursing from a recognized institution
o Professional Membership/Licensing requirements
o Registration with and Valid License from Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK)
o Previous relevant work experience required (including a specific length or type of experience in a certain job or level.)
o Have 3 years progressive experience in a similar role within a busy hospital.
